Grace for Single Moms
Gracipients: Single Parents Ministry | Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, Philippines
by Pastor Harry Sorre, GD Volunteer Relations Director
In Genesis 16 and 21, we meet Hagar, a mother and a bondservant who hit rock bottom. Cast out and treated harshly, she and her son Ishmael faced the bitterness of the desert. Yet, in their moment of deepest despair, God’s grace reached out. Hagar discovered that she was never truly alone, naming the well Beer-lahai-roi, for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
Just as God met Hagar in the wilderness, He continues to pursue the weary today. In Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, I have seen the Lord show His heart for single mothers through our partnership with Abba’s Arms, an organization from Texas, USA. This past year, I was privileged to help facilitate financial support from Abba’s Arms for the livelihoods of these single mothers, alongside our dedicated GraceDrive team here in Negros.
However, we know that man does not live by bread alone. While financial assistance provides relief, the heart of our mission is the proclamation of the Gospel. Just as Jesus stood among the broken and offered living water, we aim to point every parent to the sufficiency of Christ. We praise God that these parents have opened their hearts and gladly listened as the Good News was shared.

Like Hagar, these mothers are learning that they serve a God who sees, a Father who provides, and a Savior who redeems.
Let us continue to pray:
• For the ongoing work of God in the lives of every single parent.
• For the Abba’s Arms ministry to remain a vessel of His compassion.
• That the seeds of the Gospel sown in Pontevedra would grow into a harvest of faith.
To God be all the glory!
